World can’t function without trees, PU VC

LAHORE: (Thursday, February 26, 2026): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, stated that trees are extremely important for human life and that the world cannot function without them. He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony and awareness walk organized in connection with a tree plantation campaign held by Punjab University in collaboration with the Forest Department here on Thursday.

On this occasion, Registrar Dr Ahmad Islam, DG Prof Dr Rehan Sadiq Sheikh, Resident Officer-II Prof Dr Abdul Majid Khan, Chief Conservator Forest Sheikh Saqib Mahmood, President Academic Staff Association Prof Dr Amjad Abbas Khan Magsi, faculty members, Forest Department officials, and a large number of students were present. On this occasion, PU VC Dr Muhammad Ali formally inaugurated the tree plantation campaign by planting a citrus sapling near Gate No. 3 of the New Campus. During the campaign, 300 fruit-bearing trees are being planted. In his address, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that trees play a fundamental role in improving the Air Quality Index in cities and compensating for oxygen deficiency. He said that plants not only beautify the environment but also contribute to the production of food and medicines. He further stated that the importance of trees in eliminating environmental pollution is universally acknowledged. He said that students can play a key role in environmental improvement, and that promoting education and awareness is essential to bring Pakistan’s forests up to international standards. He added that making the world better, more beautiful, and sustainable is a shared responsibility of all of us. He appreciated the efforts of the organizers for successfully arranging the ceremony and thanked the participants.
